Selection procedure of the European Championship referees
Referees, assistant referees, fourth officials and VARs for the European Championship in Germany are appointed by UEFA on a match-by-match basis. The leaders will be selected from the international list and may not lead matches from their own country's group.
A reserve referee will be present at each match. If a referee or flagger cannot whistle/flag the game, he is replaced by the fourth official.
VAR at the European Championship in Germany
A team of 24 video referees will be present in Germany to assist those on the field with technical support.

Training, courses and health of the referees
The referees are selected by UEFA and must follow special training and courses in the months before kick-off. The first seminars will already start in the summer.
