Composition of the European Championship squads

The European Championship 2024 selections may consist of a maximum of 26 players. On May 3, 2024, UEFA decided that the selections may consist of three more players than before. This means that the national coaches have more options.

The national football associations must bear the costs for these additional players themselves; there will be no additional compensation from the European football organization.

Before the match, each team must provide a list of the entire selection consisting of 11 starting players, 15 substitutes and 11 staff members.

A maximum of 15 substitutes may sit on the bench. The bench consists of 23 seats, so each team must decide for itself how many substitutions and how many assistants to register on the score sheet. This will mean that three people will have to sit in the stands.

Suspended players are of course not allowed to sit on the bench and doping is strictly prohibited and all players in the selection can be tested after the match.

The entire selections must arrive at the stadium no later than 1.5 hours before kick-off. At least one team doctor must be present at all times. The warm-up may last 30 minutes and will take place 50 minutes to 20 minutes before kick-off.

The referee may take a drink break during the match. One additional substitution may be made in the event of extra time of the match, regardless of whether a team has already made the maximum number of substitutions.

Footballers / players at the 2024 European Championship

Each country must initially provide a provisional list with a maximum of 55 players for the European Championship 2024. These football players have the nationality of the country they represent.

The list will include information on full names, names on shirt, date and place of birth, passport number, height, weight, number of international matches played and goals scored.

No more than 23 people are allowed on the bench during the game. This is a maximum of 15 substitutes and 8 assistants (including 1 team doctor).

Final list of 26 players for the European Championship

Each country must send UEFA a final list with a minimum of 23 and a maximum of 26 players, of which at least 3 must be goalkeepers. [ref] The players on this final list must also appear on the provisional list. The list also contains a maximum of 27 staff members.

A player may only participate in the European Football Championship if he can identify himself by means of a passport.

Injuries and illness in the European Championship selection

Players and goalkeepers may only be replaced if both the team doctor and the UEFA doctor indicate that the injury or illness is so serious that the player can no longer participate in the tournament. [ref]

A field player on the final list may only be replaced in the event of injury or illness up to one day before the first group match.

A goalkeeper may also be replaced during the tournament, before the start of the next match.

    Availability for the national team

Football players are allowed to play their last match for their own club at the latest one month before the start of the tournament. After that they must be available for the national team.

The list of the complete selection must be announced no later than one week before the start of the tournament.

This page will contain a list with details of all players at Euro 2024. The list includes the shirt number, position, first name, last name, club, date of birth and height of each player.

The shirt numbers consist of numbers from 1 to 26. If number 1 is used, it must be worn by the goalkeeper.
