Sustainability in sport and society is important for EURO 2024
The German Football Association DFB and UEFA have once again underlined the importance of sustainable development in sport and society for both sides. Presidents of DFB and UEFA explain how EURO 2024 is already meeting its sustainability commitments.
"Less than two years before the 2024 European Championship, we are on the threshold between conceptualization and implementation. The anticipation increases. And so is the responsibility towards us as organisers," said Bernd Neuendorf of the DFB.
"For the first time in the history of the EURO, we have ensured that sustainability goals, such as respect for human rights and the environment, are fully enshrined in the official tournament regulations", said UEFA's Alexander Ceferin.
The organizers of EURO 2024 have already taken important steps to back up their words. For example, the tournament's match schedule has been designed to minimize travel for teams and supporters. At the same time, the ten host cities will fully rely on the existing stadiums and facilities to host the matches.Read all news »
